Wim Stroetinga to become assistant sports director NXTG Racing

Wim Stroetinga joins the Pavé76 project as sports director for our junior women’s development team and will also serve as assistant sports director for the NXTG Racing UCI’s women’s team.

The gap between the junior women and the elite category is so big. The reason I joined this project is to help young, talented women to bridge this gap and to prevent them from quitting the sport altogether. The mental side of that step is just as important as the physical progress of these riders.

Stroetinga announced his retirement from professional racing earlier this week and has already started the courses to become a cycling trainer.

I was thinking of what I wanted to do. When this opportunity came along it felt good right away. I have followed women’s cycling closely because Roxane (Knetemann), my partner, has been part of that peloton for many years. It’s a challenge for me to help grow the women’s sport.

Stroetinga has ridden and won many Six-Day races. He took part in many track World Cups, European and World Championships. He is known for his strong sprinting abilities, both on the track and on the road, knowledge he hopes to share with the future generation.

I hope to help the fast riders in the junior team and the NXTG Racing team. I feel that there are still many smaller and bigger things to do to fulfil the full sprinting potential of these talented young riders. I hope to help them get the best out of themselves, not by constantly comparing to others but by looking at every individual rider. I am really looking forward to starting this new step in my career.”
