Shari Bossuyt new U23 Belgian championTweet Delen op Facebook
Shari Bossuyt won the national Belgian U23 championship. Her third place in the championshop race in Anzegem also resulted in a bronze medal in the elite women's race.
I am really happy with this national title and with the bronze medal. I felt strong today. In a first attack I followed Valerie Demey, Lotte Kopecky and Jolien d'Hoore. We got a small gap but were caught again. Then Lotte and Jolien attacked again. I waited until the last of the seven ascents of the Tiegemberg and gave everything. On my own I rode towards Jolien and Lotte. In the final kilometre I tried an attack to surprise them but I felt the effort I did on that Tiegemberg.
Shari Bossuyt started the 'new' season really well with a win on the circuit of Zolder, a 6th place at the national time trial championships, a fifth place at the European U23 time trial championships and a seventh place in the road race.
My trainer and I worked really well during the COVID-19 break. Those top ten places at the European championships gave me a huge confidence boost. I feel like I am getting closer to the top now but at the same time there is still so much to do. That's a healthy ambition for a young rider, I think.
