The Healthy Ageing Tour is the first stage race of the year. In its tenth edition the organizers manage to organize three stages within the COVID-19 restrictions the Netherlands has during lockdown. That deserves a big compliment. The HAT is a UCI 2.1 race with a good start field. On Wednesday 10 March there is 126-kilometre long stage on the TT circuit in Assen. On Thursday the riders get a 14,4 kilometre race against the clock in Lauwersoog and on Friday the peloton rides the same course as the 2020 Dutch national championships: 115 kilometres with 17 times the VAM-berg.
Our selection led by sports director Kelvin Dekker is: Ilse Pluimers, Shari Bossuyt, Maud Rijnbeek, Mylène de Zoete, Charlotte Kool and Britt Knaven. Ilse previews:
I looked forward to the Healthy Ageing Tour where we will have a nice team. I expect we will learn a lot again. The first day on the TT cicruit will most likely end in a bunch sprint. Then we have a time trial and I am really looking forward to that, especially with the amazing Pinarello time trial bikes we have! The final day on the VAM-berg will be really hard. The weaher will be a big factor and make this a hard race.
The weather predictions for the race are really bad. Rain and storm on Thursday so our riders are in for some real Flandrienne weather circumstances in the north of the Netherlands. Warm and dry in the Tilburg and Bastianen team car is Kelvin Dekker:
I am happy we do get to race in the Netherlands. There are three completely different stages. We have the ambition to ride a really good sprint with the team on stage one. On Thursday everyone will have to push her limits to the max in the time trial and Friday's stage will just be very hard. It will be a nice three days to see where everyone stands.
