Ally won the GP Morbihan in Bretagne this Saturday. Her first pro win was imminent after a stellar performance in the Tour de Bretagne last week with three podium spots and a third place in the overall plus a tenth place in La Classique Morbihan on Friday. That tenth place gave our New Zealand rider the fire for today’s performance.

I am really happy first and foremost. Today I had the fire in the belly afer we made a few mistakes yesterday. I had the legs yesterday but we missed the move. I knew today that we had to do something today as team to settle that.

The original breakaway of three riders went halfway the 102,6 kilometre long race. Ally bridged across and brought Tour de Bretagne winner Victoria Guazzini with her. The first group now had two FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine teammates in Guazzini and Grace Brown but Ally managed to counter all the moves and sprinted to her first ever road win!

Winning here is so amazing. I am so overwhelmed. I am so happy and proud of Gaia, Lone, Eline, Cassia and Amber. They did a lot of work in the early part of the race and then controlled in the peloton to make sure our break stayed clear so I could sprint for that win. I owe it to them.”

Sports director Christian Kos was equally proud of AG Insurance-NXTG second win of the season, after Britt Knaven brought home the U23 time trial title in Belgium earlier this month.

This is my first win as a sports director so that’s special. Ally was so ridiculously strong today after that disappointing race yesterday. She won that peloton sprint yesterday at the same finish so easily but we didn’t have the race under control.

Today was the complete opposite. Everything went right. The team did everything right and Ally was the strongest rider in the race together with Grace Brown. She countered a few too many moves in that final but still was strong enough to finish it off in style. It was an impressive performance by Ally and by the team as a whole.”
