Revanche for Charlotte Kool in Omloop van het Hageland

Saturday's Omloop Het Nieuwsblad was a bitter disappointment for Charlotte Kool because two crashes ended her day. On Sunday in Spar Omloop van het Hageland she had the same legs and took revenge with a sixth place in a strong UCI 1.1-race.

From the start I managed to stay at the front all the time, like yesterday. I felt just as strong. I started the cobbles with the first riders of the bunch and therefore managed to escape a crash.I was in a good group after that. It was early in the race and no one really went for it and everything came back together.

On the local laps I knew I had to be at the front on the Roeselberg climb because that's where the race would be decided. Julia was with me and I knew it all came down to that last lap and last climb. I needed to focus on that climb and give it my all but everything just hurt so bad! Thanks to Julia who helped me position well before the climb I survived and prepared for the sprint.

The final 5 kilometres were fast which made positioning hard. I was obstructed a little in the sprint itself but thats something to learn from. I amaze myself every time again and am very happy with this result. I am also thankful to Kelvin giving me the confidence by shouting in my ear!

The result was a sixth place in a strong field. Julia Borgström was important to Charlotte in the final. This was the first Flemish Classic for our young Swede.

It was a hard day from the start until the finish. I suffered all day but am very happy I survived. I was doing everything to help Charlotte but was a bit empty at the end.

It was a weekend with mixed results and feelings with only two riders finishing in both races. But it is not always only about the numbers, says DS Kelvin Dekker.

For most of our girls this was not what they hoped for. Sometimes it was bad luck and sometimes it was a physical thing we need to work on. We must not forget the positive things we saw from everyone this weekend. We will now analyze the weekend, improve the bad things, cherish the good things and work towards the next races.
